Photograms/Rayographs.
What is a Photogram/Rayograph?
Photograms are pictures produced with photographic materials (light sensitive paper) but without a camera. If you place objects directly onto the light sensitive paper , then expose it to the light you will make a photogram/rayograph. If you expose the paper to light it will turn all black straight away.
Opacity - How much light is allowed through. Transparency/Translucent - A see through object or picture. The process in the darkroom.1.Turn off the lights and put on the safe light (its a red colour light)
2.Choose your objects you want to place on your light sensitive paper. 3.Place your light sensitive paper under the enlarger 4.Put the objects on the paper and turn on the enlarger. 5.Once the enlarger is finished you place your paper in the 'developer' for about 1 minute. 6.You then put your paper in the 'stop' for a few seconds. 7.Then you have to put it in the 'fix' for about 45 seconds. 8.Now you have to rinse your photogram in water and lightly run your hands over the paper. 9.Lastly you have to leave your photograms to dry on a line , you peg them onto the line. |

This one would have been better if there would have been more unknown, abstract objects in there. I would like to make my next image more interesting and use more objects. I tried to overlap the strip of film and the wires top left but I think I over-exposed the image so you can't really see them clearly. I think more overlapping objects would have made this image more interesting.

I think my 2nd attempt was much better than my first. However i put a film roll in this one and it's hardly visible , if it was more visible i think the photogram would look better. Also if i spread the objects out more and put more objects in the middle it would of been a more confusing rayograph. I could of tried to fill the picture more top right but I didn't know what to put there.

If I had another opportunity to go into the dark room I would:
-Try to create a more interesting photogram.
-Bring in a variety of objects from home.
-Make a bigger image.
